What Is Project Child?

Project Child, a program of Valley Youth House,  is a coalition of concerned citizens and organizations that exists to prevent child

abuse of the Lehigh Valley by:

  • informing the public of the seriousness and the extent of child abuse as a community problem, and strategies for its prevention

  • assisting parents who are at risk of being child abusers in obtaining appropriate services

  • collecting and maintaining data regarding successful child abuse prevention programs

  • seeking ways to support effective child abuse prevention programs already in existence, and planning, facilitating, and evaluating the development of new services

  • advocating for legislation to further the mission

  • promoting positive caretaking and parenting, encouraging the use of non-violent alternatives to physical discipline which are more effective and less damaging to the bodies and spirits of children

  • Training professionals for the task of assisting families with effective discipline and nurturing of their children.
